Time: 7.30 pm  (Refreshments FIRST – then the Discussion/Sharing/Message – will follow)

Speakers: Rev Tim Costello (AO) Chief Advocate: Alliance for Gambling Reform.

Theme: “Gambling DOES matter“

Tim is one of Australia’s most respected community leaders and trusted voices on social justice, leadership, and ethics.

For decades, Australians have looked to him as a clear articulator of the nation’s social conscience.

He is someone who has led the conversation on some of our toughest domestic and international challenges — from gambling harm and urban poverty to homelessness, reconciliation, and human rights.

Tim is perhaps best known for his former role as Chief Executive of World Vision Australia.

Today, as Chief Advocate for the Alliance for Gambling Reform, he’s driving national awareness of gambling-related harm, while also serving concurrently this year as Executive Director of Micah Australia.

His influence extends across a wide range of leadership roles, including Chair of the Community Council of Australia; member of the Multi-Stakeholder Steering Committee of the EU–Australia Leadership Forum; board member for the Campaign for Australian Aid; board member for the Australian National Development Index; Patron of SMSF; and Patron of the National Youth Commission.

Tim was ordained a Baptist Minister in 1986. From 1987 to 1994, he served as Minister at St Kilda Baptist Church, and during 1993–94 he also served as Mayor of the City of St Kilda.

He then went on to become Minister of Collins Street Baptist Church from 1995 to 2004, during which time he also served as Executive Director of Urban Seed, a Christian not-for-profit organisation.

In recognition of his contributions, Tim was named Victorian of the Year in 2004, awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in June 2005, and named Victorian Australian of the Year in 2006.

It’s been a while since we last had Tim at our men’s group, August 20th 2009 to be exact.

I strongly encourage you to come and hear what Tim will be sharing, as it’s such an important message that affects our lives and communities in so many ways.
