SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER:  Phil Simpson

Theme:  “Reflections On Christmas, The Festive Season”

 

 

 

 

 

 

Phil is a Criminal Barrister. He has been a member of the Victorian Bar for over 20 years, appearing for thousands of people charged with criminal offences. For thirteen years, Phil maintained a parallel career as a School Chaplain supporting staff, students and families of the local Primary School. Phil now splits his time between his Court appearances and his role as co-founder of The Shed Door, a registered charity in Mitcham, Victoria.

Operating from an Industrial factory space in an Industrial estate in Mitcham, it mainly caters to men’s needs. The factory space is the home for various programs focused on the well-being of youth, young adults, men, and their families.

Phil is married with four children and loves adventures with his family, often participating in mission work in The Philippines, which has become an annual event. They often take other family groups, youths and young adults as well.

Peter is a retired Baptist Minister, former Workplace chaplain including CFA, SHELL and Laminex.

Former Teacher in NSW, Juvenile Justice and Steel Worker and Taxi Driver.
Local to Williamstown, with four children and a keen Tiger (Richmond) Supporter.

Theme: “Update on recent trip to Uganda”

Speaker: Gavon Bourne (The Gideons International – Regional Field Officer, Africa South, Uganda)

Gavon strives to be Christ’s witness as in Acts 1:8 — “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”.

Gavon Bourne is from the State of Victoria, Australia. He is a retired Lecturer in Turf Grass Management from the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE in Queensland. He resides in Heathcote Junction, Victoria with his wife, Patricia, his married daughter Sharon, Son in Law Mark and their four grandchildren.

Gavon has been a member of The Gideons International in Australia since 1993, joining the Pine River Camp in Queensland. He has served as state president for Queensland, as well as state vice president and state secretary, a state camp coordinator and state church coordinator, in addition to serving in most positions at the camp level. He has been a member of The Australian Gideon National Staff serving as The Development Director for The Southern State, which included the states of Victoria and Tasmania.

Gavon has served as a member of an International Scripture Blitz Team to Peru in 2009. Since 2012, Gavon has served as a Regional Field Officer. With Assignments in the Pacific Rim, visiting countries or the provinces of  Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Kiribati Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia, Tuvalu Islands and Tonga. In the 2018-19 Gideon year, Gavon was appointed to Asia, Area 7, to the countries of Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia. Currently, he accepted the “Pilot” Regional Field Officer Assignment to Uganda, Africa South.
